who agrees with me that the decline by nofx is the number one punk masterpiece (song) of all time. If you don't agree put your opinion. Lets try to start a poll.

Punk masterpiece? | ||

My opinion is that NOFX sucks and there's no way I'd pick any song by them in my top 50 punk songs of all time. Narrowing it down to one song is rough. There are too many great songs out there by too many great bands.

david, i agree with you, and anyone who says nofx generally sucks is a total idiot. accuse me of liking generic punk if you will, but anyone with an ear for music would realize that nofx is not generic at all, especially when they write an 18 minute long song with only one part that repeats throughout. i honestly think that the reason alot of people don't like nofx is that they are so popular that people think that by some sort of duty to the "underground scene" they have to hate them. really, though, if you put aside their stupid songs (like the ones about vaginas and stuff), they're lyrics same some interesting stuff (ESPECIALLY in the decline), their cd's sound amazing (from a mixing/mastering standpoint) and it's tough to deny that they're great musicians. if you can't hear the difference between a band like nofx and a band like fenix tx you don't deserve to have ears.

I have ears... | ||
|
I have tried for many years to get into NOFX and sorry, but I have been listening to music and punk rock for quite a long time (I'm 27), and NOFX has a few decent tunes, but overall, they suck. It has nothing to do with the stupid lyrics or anything like that. Their songs dont' stick in my head (again, except for a select few). But to say that NOFX or Fenix TX (who also suck) is some of the best punk rock every written? Any song that Minor Threat put out beats ANY song ever written by NOFX. I could write a list, but it's only my opinion. I would also rank ANY song written by Avail over ANY NOFX song.
You're entitled to your opinion, but if someone doesn't like NOFX, I assure you they still deserver to have ears (especially if they don't like Fenix TX, who sucks worse than NOFX!) |

fenix tx | ||

i never said anything about fenix tx there probably the shittiest mtv wannabee (punk) band around. buy the way they only had one hit shite i dont even remember had the song went. The thing that i think makes the decline a special song to me is that the song is like 18 minutes long and the song is kept original the whole way through they never repeat any part of the song twice.
Another great punk songs to me are AVAIL's armchair, IGNITE's fill in the blanks, and Planes Mistaken For Stars' Copper and Stars hopefullt these songs will sound more appealing to 138 and the other synical non nofx fans on the board. |

holy mother of god, please don't anyone misinterpret what i said to mean that i actually like fenix tx. my original point was that if you can't see the difference between nofx (a good band in my opinion) and a generic awful pop punk band like fenix tx, then you suck. i was making the point that nofx is not generic pop punk (because a lot of people say they are). fenix tx is maybe the worst band ever. seriously. that's what i meant, and it means alot to me to correct the idea that i like fenix tx.

How the hell do these guys even consider themselves punk rock anyway?
I still don't like NOFX but I get your point Jordan. Just a matter of opinion. |

Armchair... | ||

is actually one of my favorite Avail songs. Ignite is OK. Never listened to Planes Mistaken for Stars. Maybe I'll check them out.
My apologies to Jordan. I didn't read your post correctly. Glad you think Fenix TX sucks. I think we'd all agree on that one. |

i've taken alot of heat for defending nofx on this board, so avail138, thanks for at least having an open mind about them. if you want to get into nofx, it depends most on what kind of punk you're into. punk in drublic is probably the overall best nofx cd- great songwriting, (some) intellegent lyrics, good musicianship, etc. but, if you're more into guitar-riff driven stuff, check out white trash, two heebs, and a bean. the songs aren't as catchy as on punk in drublic (and not as fast/heavy sometimes), but it's a punk guitarists dream album. it's way tighter and has less joke-songs. and don't forget the subject of this post- the decline. even if you hate everything else nofx has ever recorded, you have to give it a try just by virtue of the fact that it is an 18 minute long punk rock epic with only one part that repeats throughout. i mean, come on- even if you think the song sucks, you gotta give 'em credit for making it work. and allow leeway- they have some pretty crappy songs, but when they're on they're really on.
